Frequently asked questions
What does the net figure here include? (United Kingdom)
National Insurance + income tax (PAYE), England rates. Scotland has its own bands.
How do you go from net back to gross?
The reverse calculation is not a simple division: because the scale is progressive, each income band is taxed differently. The calculator works back to gross by successive approximation, which gives the exact figure rather than a rough estimate.
Are these amounts exact?
They are reliable estimates, but indicative: they do not account for your household situation, any benefits, or agreements specific to your sector or region. For a contractual figure, refer to your payslip.
